Ocean/coastal dynamics
Göran Broström, Jonas Nycander, Department of Meteorology

The scientific research at Dep. of Meteorology, Stockholm, University, represents a large number of themes ranging from the dynamics large scale oceanography and its response to climate forcing to local atmospheric chemistry. Interested are welcome to contact us for a deeper description of the work at the department as a whole. In this description we focus on the work carried out by a few scientists in the oceanography group and focus on our own research (Note that there are other scientists in the group that are not represented here). Göran Broström: I carry out a number of numerical ocean models for both large scale dynamics and for local conditions in local fjords. Example of projects I would be interested may be: High resolution modeling of water exchange, and environmental important variables such as nutrient, in small scale near-shore areas such as bays and fjords. Biogeochemical modeling of such areas will be considered as well. Idealized numerical experiments highlighting dynamical features of the large-to-medium scale ocean circulation. Modeling the water exchange and reaction dynamics in the sediment “reaction factory”. The dynamics of oceanic surface waves and their forcing of oceanic currents. This project touches to the area of applied mathematics, and may be carried out in cooperation with a mathematical department. Jonas Nycander: Jonas works theoretically on a wide range of geophysical fluid dynamik problems. More information about the projects or questions on other possible projects (we only outlined a few possible projects that we think can be of interest for applicants), contact any us for further information. More information can also be found at our web pages.
