Detection and characterization of animal, human and environmental strains of Listeria monocytogenes isolated in Libya
Wilhelm Tham, Faculty of veterinary medicine

The aim of this project is to increase the understanding of genomic variability in pathogenic bacteria in general and L. monocytogenes in particular. A more distant aim is that the results will enable selection of pathogenicity markers, which can be utilized by simpler assay systems suitable for food industrial settings. It should be emphasized that Listeria monocytogenes can be used also as a model for other food-borne pathogen bacterial species. Thus, the approach below could, when back home in Libya again, be used for other food-associated pathogens
